What are Scandinavian dentures?

Scandinavian dentures (technically known as Scandinavian Concept Partial Prostheses) represent a sophisticated, health-first method of replacing missing teeth. Backed by more than 50 years of clinical research, this approach is entirely designed around preserving your long-term oral health.

Traditional partial dentures often press heavily against your gums and trap food, which can cause irritation or damage to your remaining teeth over time. In contrast, the Scandinavian concept uses a lightweight, advanced chrome framework designed to bypass your delicate gum lines entirely. Instead of resting on soft tissue, the denture is supported securely by your remaining natural teeth. Its unique, open design allows your natural saliva to flow freely and makes cleaning incredibly easy.

What does the treatment involve?

Step 1: Personal consultation: We begin by sitting down to discuss your dental history, your personal goals, and what you want to achieve with your new smile.

Step 2: Smile design & planning: Your design is uniquely yours. We can look at old photos of your natural smile to replicate the exact shape, position, and colour of your original teeth. We also evaluate your current dental health to ensure the framework will be perfectly supported.

Step 3: 3D Verification & try-in: Using advanced accuracy, we create a try-in version to test the fit, function, and aesthetics in your mouth. This allows us to make meticulous adjustments before the final denture is made.

Step 4: Fit & follow-up: Once our expert technicians handcraft your final prosthesis, we will fit it and guide you on how to care for it. You will leave the clinic ready to eat, speak, and smile with absolute confidence.

Spread the cost of your dentures with our 0% finance options, subject to suitability. Frequently asked questions

How do Scandinavian dentures stay in place if they don't sit on my gums?

Instead of resting on your soft, delicate gums, Scandinavian dentures are securely supported by your remaining natural teeth. They use a precision-engineered, ultra-thin metal framework that clips gently but firmly around your teeth. This keeps the denture completely stable when you eat and speak, without rocking or slipping.

Are they comfortable to wear?

Yes, they are very comfortable to wear. Because the metal framework is incredibly strong, it can be made much thinner and lighter than some plastic dentures. Additionally, because the design leaves your gum lines open, it doesn’t press into your gums or cause the rubbing and sore spots sometimes associated with older styles of dentures.

Will people be able to tell that I’m wearing a denture?

Not at all, and a large part of the Scandinavian philosophy is invisible dentistry. We take the time to look at your facial structure, and even old photos of your natural smile if you have them, to perfectly match the shade, shape, and alignment of your original teeth. The framework itself is hidden behind your teeth, so your smile will look completely natural and unique to you.

Can I eat normally with a Scandinavian denture?

Yes, you can. Some traditional dentures can sometimes slide or lift when you bite into harder foods because they sit on shifting gum tissue. Because Scandinavian dentures are anchored directly to your teeth, they transfer the pressure of chewing safely down the roots of your natural teeth. This gives you a much stronger, more reliable bite so you can enjoy your favourite foods with confidence.

How do I clean and look after them?

One of the best features of this design is how easy it is to keep clean. Because it has an open design that doesn’t trap food against your gums, maintaining good hygiene is straightforward. You simply remove the denture to brush your remaining natural teeth as normal, and gently clean the denture itself with a soft brush and a recommended cleanser before putting it back in.

What happens if I lose another tooth in the future?

This is where the clever engineering really shines. These dentures are designed with the future in mind. If one of your remaining natural teeth weakens or needs to be removed years down the road, the advanced chrome framework can often be adapted. We can simply add a new replacement tooth to your existing denture rather than you needing to order a whole new denture.
