Invisalign’s clear aligners are designed with comfort in mind, and our digital technology ensures they have an accurate and snug fit over your teeth, so they won’t hurt at all. You may experience some discomfort when you move to a new aligner, but this does not last long and is a good sign that your Invisalign treatment is working!
The length of time that Invisalign treatment takes varies depending on each individual patient and how far your teeth have to move to achieve your ideal results. On average, most Invisalign treatments are completed in 9-18 months. We will advise you of your expected treatment time frame during your initial consultation.
You need to wear your Invisalign aligners all the time, removing them only to eat, drink and clean your teeth. Whenever your aligners are out of your mouth, your treatment is effectively paused, as the gradual forces cannot work on moving your teeth. You should make sure you wear your aligners for around 22 hours per day.
You may find your speech is different at first, as you get used to the feeling of the aligners in your mouth. You may have a slight lisp, but this will fade after a few days.
A retainer is needed to keep your teeth in their new straighter positions following all orthodontic treatment. Teeth have a habit of moving out of place and returning to their original positions, so a retainer prevents your hard work during treatment from being lost. We usually recommend you wear your retainers overnight on a part time basis for as long as you wish your teeth to stay straight.
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible when worn, so other people won’t be able to tell you are wearing them unless you tell them!
