Bridgework is a way in which a missing tooth or teeth can be replaced. A bridge is made by preparing the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth space for crown restorations.
These adjacent teeth support the bridge which is a series of crowns fused together incorporating a unit for the missing tooth. The bridge is permanently cemented to the adjacent teeth.
Although this is an excellent way to replace a missing tooth, often perfectly healthy teeth require dental preparation and today we have the option of using a dental implant to replace a missing tooth leaving the adjacent teeth healthy and untouched
